Termites, anyone?

Postby Bingi_chile on Tue Mar 04, 2008 9:07 am

I'm definitely enjoying my bowl drums (bote? bara? tabale?), but back in January I had a pretty scary dream: I went over to play them and I saw that the shell was covered with bugs. (I honestly can't be sure which came first--the dream or the commercial, but around that time, I heard a radio commercial for an orange oil-based termite repellent.)

Have any of you ever experienced a termite disaster? Is this orange oil the real deal? I've heard that placing crushed mothball bits in the rings are a good solution, but I wouldn't want that kind of chemical compound constantly in my face during an aerobic act such as drumming.

Well if you live in a climate that is currently sub-zero, you can leave your drum outside or in the garage overnight and that should take care of the buggers. Otherwise, an industrial-size freezer should do the trick.

I have my great grandfathers fiddle in the garage under quarantine due to suspicious little holes....

Steam would also kill the buggers... ;)
I live in a world of infinite possibilities.

Fortunately this dream has not yet come to fruition. Hopefully it was just the fact that I had too much pizza before going to bed that night.

But my question was actually directed towards something as a preventative measure. Because I have seen termites in S. California before, I wonder if applying something like orange oil would be worthwhile.
